Dear NJHS Student,

We hope you’re having a fun and safe summer! Your freshman year is just around the corner, and now is the time to be thinking about service hours for National Junior Honors Society. Remember, you must complete 4.5 hours of community service, per quarter, outside of school hours.
A very important service opportunity that we would like all of you to participate in is the 7th Grade Orientation. Do you remember your first day of school at Midvale? You may have been intimidated about entering middle school. Now is your chance to make the incoming 7th graders feel comfortable and confident about their first year of middle school.

To participate in this service opportunity you must attend a briefing on either Wednesday, August 22nd from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. or Thursday, August 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. We’ll meet in Ms. Putnam’s room, and you will receive your NJHS t-shirt (I hope), as well as information about 7th Grade Orientation on Friday, August 24th. If you are unable to make either of these information meetings, please e-mail Ms. Putnam at jill.putnam@canyonsdistrict.orgso we can make other arrangements (I am aware that some of you may be on vacation or are busy in other ways, so don't worry if you can't make it because you had prior arrangements... just let me know).

On Friday, August 24 you will need to be at school by 7:15 a.m. for the 7th Grade Orientation; the meeting area will be announced later. We would also like you to give an hour of your time to help teachers prepare for the upcoming school year on either August 22nd after our meeting or August 24th after the 7th graders leave. If you can help on either day it would be great as we are getting several new teachers who will need a lot of help setting up their rooms.

By participating in this service opportunity, you will have completed your required service hours for the first quarter of school. Please visit the NJHS web site at www.midvalementors.wikispaces.com before Monday, August 20th and fill out the online form for the 7th Grade Orientation (link also below) service opportunity. Please indicate which meeting you plan to attend (Aug. 22nd or Aug. 23rd), and when you plan to give your service hours to help teachers prepare for the upcoming school year.

We are excited to see you all for this very important service project!

Sincerely,
Ms. Jill Putnam
Ms. Amanda Toler
Mrs. Holley Brimhall
